Procrastination is the art of keeping up with yesterday. – Author Unknown
Coming up with ideas has always been easy for me. I love the whole process. Some ideas hit the mark, while others miss it by a mile! However, the real challenge lies in persisting until a project is finished, especially when my inner critic rears its ugly head. This often leads to procrastination, triggering the familiar 'not good enough' thoughts.
How to Conquer Procrastination
I know motivation is the key, but it is hard when the procrastination monster eats away at your dreams. So, how do we conquer this beast?
True motivation comes from a deep desire for positive change. What do you want in your life? A stronger relationship? A fulfilling career? More money? Better health? Whatever it is, you decide on your goals and then take action. But big changes take time, effort, and a positive mindset. When your dream is big enough, it can help you conquer everything. That dream is your true north. Your dream is your "why" for what you want in life.
Live Your Dream Life
Your "why" is your dream fuel. It's the driving force that transforms "meh" into "marvelous!" But your dream must be big and important enough to motivate you on the journey.
It's easier said than done, right? Our internal programming can sabotage our motivation. Those negative voices—' Not good enough,' 'Who do you think you are?'—can quickly derail us.
A mere whisper of doubt can halt your progress. The key is to identify these thoughts for what they truly are. Are they constructive, propelling you forward? Or are they hindering your growth, keeping you in your comfort zone?
Thoughts that tend to keep you in your comfort zone come from a part of you that wants to keep you safe. Keeping you safe means never venturing out, never trying anything different. But staying perfectly safe all the time isn't what makes you want to live. You have to take chances, not knowing how things will turn out.
Stay Motivated
Getting and staying motivated isn't about staying comfortable. Dreaming big means stepping into the unknown, taking a leap of faith, and trusting that you'll land on your feet.
I'm a skier, and I've learned much about overcoming challenges from the sport. When facing a crazy-steep run, I often question myself. But I've learned to trick my mind, trust my abilities, and go for it. Skiing has taught me a lot, which has also helped me in my life.
Whether you're starting a blog, moving to a new country, learning a new language, or, in my case, all three, making any major life change is both scary and exhilarating. But ultimately, you decide your fate. You choose to leap or not, and you are the one who chooses to keep going until you get to where you want to be!
Giving up is boring! I'd rather try and fall than never try at all. So, I'm taking daily steps toward my dreams, giving myself the time and space to succeed. I'm creating my own reality by setting clear goals, visualizing my success, and taking consistent action to make it happen!
Motivation is a vast and exciting topic, and I can't wait to explore it further. In the next part of this series, we'll explore the power of visualization and goal setting. Let's get started!
